tidying the lounge
Dec. 29th, 2005 07:20 pmNot much work for
waveney this month. We'll be moderately skint in January, but it should pick up after that. In the meantime, we're using the available time to clear out all sorts of overdue jobs. He's done nearly all the work on the tax returns (just needs a call to the Inland Revenue to do the very last bit and they aren't back at work until the 4th of January). He's fixed the leaky pipe and a host of minor jobs are starting to disappear off the list we compiled a few days ago.
I've been working on the lounge. I cleared a lot of stuff before Xmas, but today, the task got officially finished. We even emptied out the drawers of the bureau. Piles of books have been relocated, videos have found new homes, rubbish has been binned, every possible corner has been vacuumed, tatty pot plants have been disposed of, picures have been moved to hang in different places.
It's amazing, the room looks about a foot wider. There'll be lots of room for the next Silvercon...

Silvercon 1.5
Dec. 29th, 2005 08:14 pmThose of you who were at the last Silvercon (or who wanted to be there, but couldn't make it) should have just received an invitation to Silvercon 1.5 on 24-26 March 2006 at our place in Dorset.
If anyone didn't get an invitation and particularly wants to come, let me know.
Silvercon is a gaming weekend, for those who want to play board and card games all weekend with occasional breaks for eating and socialising. It shoehorns people into every possible corner of our house and makes use of our large collection of games (and some brought along by friends as well). It's pretty much sleeping bag accomodation as any available beds will be bagged very early on (one's gone already, and I only sent the invites out 10 mins ago).
All meals are provided (there's always a veggie option if you let us know in advance) and we're asking people to donate a fiver each towards the cost of food (unless you're only going to be there for a short period, in which case just chuck in a quid or two). People are usually pretty good at lending a hand with table-clearing and dish-washing.
For those who don't know, Silvercon 1 celebrated the Silver Wedding of
waveney and myself. Silvercon 1.5 is an excuse to have fun and a celebration of being married for 25 and a bit years.
