Waiting for the results is horrible.
Never again in our lifetimes will an election have so much impact on the entire globe.
Trump's denial of climate change has caused delays that have pushed the world far too close to the tipping points - and past some of them.
If Biden gets in, we have a chance. No guarantee that we'll make it, but at least my children and my granddaughter will have a chance.
In the meantime, I recommend 'Call the Midwife'. I have to thank SelenaK for inspiring me to watch this particular series, and I'm on my second pass through now.
It manages to combine lots of good roles for women, with storylines that move slowly through history (I'm currently watching episodes set in the early 1960s.
The series is good American election material because we have a cast of characters who genuinely care for people.
I'm an atheist, and Sister Julienne is probably my favourite character. A nun, who is basically an administrator for an order of nuns who have a vocation as midwives. She is calm, organised, compassionate and has deep religious beliefs that quietly inspire her life.
The series is fluffy in some regards - babies are born in inspiring circumstances and the midwives are always doing their best to help.
BUT - the series never glosses over the incredible poverty of the people in the East End of London. AND it tackles the issues of history as they happen. eg. We've just had a character who was a victim of the Child Migrant scheme which sent English orphans to work in horrendous conditions in Australia.
The storylines for thalidomide and abortion stand out particularly.
I'm just at the start of a long-running look at abortion, which will come at it from many angles. The horrors of back-street abortion and the damage it could do to women. The pressures which drove women to seek such an abortion.
This is part of why I love Sister Julienne so much. Her compassion never fails. Abortion is something she hates - the loss of a baby's life. But she is still capable of compassion and giving aid to a woman who has gone through a botched abortion.
