10 ways to be happier and more relaxed
May. 22nd, 2007 01:16 pm1. Don't watch TV late at night. Listen to relaxing music, sew, read, chat, for the last 3/4 hour before you go to bed.
2. Keep regular hours. Aim to be in bed by 10.30 (that's what the record function on the video is for).
3. Try and do something that will help another person - it will make you feel better about yourself.
4. Whenever you want to eat confectionary, eat a piece of fruit first. It'll reduce mood swings from sugar highs and lows. (fruit releases sugars more gradually)
5. Go for lots of walks - preferably at least three times a week for half an hour each. Pretty scenary is a big bonus, but anywhere you like walking will do.
6. Phone a friend - if you can arrange to meet up, that's a bonus, but friends are always good.
7. Say 'hello' to people you meet and smile as you do. You'll make their day a little brighter as well.
8. Grow something, even if it's only a pot plant on the kitchen windowsill - we have an intimate connection with plants.
9. Give yourself a small treat each day. Don't rush it - take the time to relax and enjoy it properly. One square of excellent chocolate savoured while sitting in the sunshine is worth ten squares eaten while rushing to do something else.
10. At the end of each day, focus on five good things in your life. It doesn't matter how big/small they are. Count them individually and think about them if you have difficulty sleeping. Accentuate the positive.
