Today was hot...
Jul. 19th, 2006 07:22 pmGuess who had arranged to have their new fridge-freezer delivered today and had to sprint round to a neighbour to beg space in her freezer while the new machine had a three-hour period for its gasses to settle before I was allowed to switch it on, let alone have it reach a safe temperature... (the old one had to be removed to make space for the new one, so I couldn't leave stuff in it)
As I was walking down to Co-op to get some milk, a little girl asked me (it happens about once a week at present) why I was in bare feet. However, it did seem a slightly odd question today as she was barefoot too!
(If anyone's wondering, canal locks can be successfully operated in bare feet. Pushing lock gates open is actually easier as the feet don't slip and walking across the top of gates is easir for the same reason. However, gritty tow paths, paddle gear set on metal plates (in hot weather) and some parts of Birmingham where the broken glass quotient is too high, are best done in sandals. I actually met two people on another boat (neither of them British) who had also gone for the bare foot option.)
