Camelot

I just watched the first episode of Camelot and I'm impressed.  It's high on the sex and nudity (which doesn't bother me, but isn't a major selling point either), but I'm also seeing some interesting character development and possibly ways of developing the storyline in the future.

A character died whom I would rather have seen live as I think they could have had an interesting impact on the series, but you can't win them all.

I think I'm going to like this show as much as I like 'Merlin', but for different reasons.  The character of Merlin in 'Camelot' is deeper and darker and very much aware of his own potential for evil.  One can already see that he may come under pressure to do things that could push him close to the edge.  I think magic is dangerous for him morally - which makes one ask what is the source of magical power in this particular universe.

Both shows are looking at what makes a good king, but being an adult show, I'm hoping that 'Camelot' may be able to explore the complexities of this a little more.  I'm hoping it won't let me down on this angle.

Assisted Suicide - seeing as it's in the news again

I'm very much in the pro camp when it comes to assisted suicide.  As I'm aware that one of the arguments against assisted suicide is that people may be forced/coerced into this against their wishes, I tend to post about once a year stating my views clearly so that my family/friends have my views on public record at a time when I'm clearly of sound mind and under no pressure from anyone.

I enjoy life.  I have a fair number of aches and pains, but nothing that would make me want to stop living. To the best of my knowledge, I have no serious illnesses.  I look forward to a long life.

However, should I later in life acquire an incurable illness that either left me in continual untreatable pain or totally unable to move, then I would rather be dead.  If I suffer mental deterioration to the point where I can no longer recognise my family members, then my quality of life will have gone and I would rather be dead.

I hope the law will develop to a point where my family would not be prosecuted if they carry out my wishes in a situation where I am not able to carry them out myself.
