watervole: (cross-stitch)
My wrists have been playing up a lot recently and it's become difficult to hold fabric while stitching, so I've started to use a hoop frame in a stand.

However, I'm finding it very difficult to fasten off on the back.  The stand is very good - I can flip the hoop over for easy access to the back, but the tension in the fabric makes it difficult to slide the needle under the stitches to fasten off.  It's also hard to fasten off near the edge where the frame gets in the way - I'm using a very small hoop as it's a miniature embroidery.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The voice is half way back now.  I can talk for nearly five minutes!  Hurrah!

I'm starting to catch up on the very worst of the email backlog as the wrists ease up. Only 90 to go... (It was 170 at the worst point last week)

Went down the allotment and weeded around the strawberries for relaxation.  A very friendly robin came and kept me company and the sun shone and relaxation was achieved.

Richard has planted the shallots (I've put some fleece over them as we'll probably get frost again tonight) and the first lot of broad beans are now several cm hight.  The seed potatoes are chitting on the bedroom windowsills.  We're still harvesting Jeruslem artichokes and beetroot and we'll have another batch of spinach before long.

If anyone ever tells you that grasping a nettle firmly will prevent the sting from hurting you, do not believe them.

I tried this.  My fingers are still sore and tingling half a day later.  I can see a small red blister on one of them.  Next time, I'll wear a glove.
