I'm rather enjoying reading Daniel Horton's civil war diary.  In the middle of all the current day goings on among the people on my friend's list, I will suddenly find a complaint about the behaviour of the Parliamentarian troops in Oxford.  Daniel talks of his wife (who clearly dislikes him), his religious beliefs and the progress of the war.

(It's all taken from 'By the Sword Divided', but it's still a delighful read even if you aren't familar with the source)
