songs on the radio
Jan. 2nd, 2005 10:53 amI have a very verbal memory and it operates overtime when it comes to songs. Once I know a song, I never forget it. It also means that I always pick out a song I know even when I'm not listening and award them extra significance when I am listening. (I once read a history of the Boer War purely because it was titled 'Goodbye Dolly Grey')
Radio 4 scored high today. A program on herrings had a recording of Ewan McColl's 'Shoals of Herring' and a programme on the Mersey tunnel had the Spinners singing 'I wish I was back in Liverpool' (which has a verse about the Mersey tunnel).
MY favourite folk songs tend to be those about real historical people and events.
