Bombs in London

Oddly enough, the thing that I keep wanting to know is whether the bus driver survived.

It may sound odd until you realise that my eldest son is a bus driver. Until now, I never thought of this as a hazardous occupation.

That point of connection is enough to make me fearful for the life of someone I've never known.

Somehow, I always knew my friends would be safe. (and as far as I can tell from LJ, they all are)

The thing that makes me most angry is the timing of this to be against the G8 summit. No matter how badly these people feel they have been treated, are they really worse off than the poor in Africa or all the millions who will be victims of climate change?

This is highjacking attention away from some of the most needy people on this planet.

The bus driver did indeed survive. Others didn't

Two fatalaties (thus far) on the bus.

The bus driver not only survived, but was able to walk away.

The two dead apparently died during triage at the roadside. There will have been more killed instantly on the bus, but it'll take a while to add up all the bits. Assuming it was full, and looking at the pics of the wreckage, I'd guess a dozen or upwards.

Thanks for the clarification -- you're right, of course there will be more on the bus.

It's not a great job "adding up all the bits" at a conventional road traffic accident, I'm glad I've never had to do it following a bomb.

I notice that climate change was on the G8 agenda for today.

It's almost enough to make a conspiracy theorist out of me.

I tell you (maniacial laughter) it's all Bush. It's a ploy to avoid having to do anything about climate change and revenge for New York not getting the olympics.

That is something that often people don't consider. I have a very close friend who is a tube driver. He says that people often forget the traumatic experience it is for a driver when someone chooses to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train. That, thankfully, has never happened to him, but he has had the job of driving a train back to the depot when it has happened to someone else, and he says that is bad enough, and I can believe him.
