(no subject)

I open my friends page on Liverjournal to find the first five entries are reposts of boring tweets!

My page layout seems to have changed in the last couple of weeks to one I don't like at all.  Is there any way to get back, or is all LJ universally the same now?

It appears that I can't even post this message without linking my facebook account to LJ.  (Ah, it tells me that 'watervole' already exists on LJ, well, yes, that's me. But it still won't allow me to post to my own journal...)

and it only seems to want to post to a community.  I try post post and it tells me I am not a valid community, but it shows no way for me to post to my own journal (this is coming via crosspost from Dreamwidth)

What the Dickens is happening?

I usually post via crosspost from Dreamwidth, so I've no idea how long LJ has changed its posting system.

Maybe this post will appear - I've no idea...

It seems to have linked my Facebook account to LJ, as when I posted a comment in Vera's journal just now, it showed my real name rather than 'watervole'. I have mixed feelings about this.  I don't mind my name being known, it's always been there on my profile page, but I would rather have clearer options.

But basically, how the devil do I make a post on Livejournal?

Wow, I haven't tried to post directly to LJ in ages... did all this mess happen on the old update page? I don't have a facebook, so I don't know how that would get conflated.

And are you using the old friends page?

There's also a 'feed' page which I find horrible, so I never use it.

Yeah, the "feed" thing. If I didn't have old and very established friends on LJ I would have left LJ behind entirely just because of the feed issue.

The forcefeed - yet another brilliant ploy to drive away the user base. *sigh* I miss LJ the way it used to be, I miss it so much.

Huh. I crosspost from DW, and haven't had any problems, but I've also no idea what LJ has been up to. I use a personalised layout over there, and that hasn't changed. The Facebook thing is pernicious.

I think it's due to connecting with FB (which I've stayed well away from doing, along with any other social media). LJ is unchanged for me. I can see it's using your FB login as open ID on LJ. I have no idea how to turn it off; I found lots about connecting, but not disconnecting. Maybe it's possible from FB? Otherwise I'd put in an LJ bug report asking how to do it.

When they first linked FB with LJ I was able to go into settings and tell LJ NOT to link. Maybe that is still there?

Aha! It's under Settings in the Extensions tab, here, at least that's where I could log into Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr etc and connect if I wanted to.

This is EXACTLY why I quit using LJ some years ago when they, by default, "outed" people, BY DEFAULT, by linking LJ accounts to FB accounts. Many people on LJ were dismissive of this move but it disturbed me deeply, and still does.

Took me a while to find it (I had to google at first just to find out what I was looking for! because LJ's FAQ was no help at all)

I think if you go here while logged in at LJ, you can switch off the Facebook/ Twitter etc. connections. I HOPE that will help.

I warned people first and then linked my LJ account to FB some time ago. Not having any problems here. Good luck with getting sorted.

Who does this reply appear to be from? Watervole or Judith?

What do you see when you try to post entries? I keep getting this page telling me that I'm trying to post to a community and I can see no way to change it.

It appears to be from Judith on Facebook.

Since I don't have Facebook and I never will, LJ is behaving the same for me.

All I can think of is, try to log out, and log back in as watervole. Though I expect you've already tried that.

[identity profile] coth.livejournal.com 2016-12-06 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Appears as Judith.

I noticed while posting just now that LJ seem to have lost my connection to FB again. So I'm really not sure about anything here.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2016-12-05 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
How strange, things haven't changed for me. I'm still using the old layout and haven't told fb and lj about each other. And Ravelry doesn't know either.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2016-12-05 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I haven´t linked my LJ to FB and will not do. So far, I haven´t had any serious problems and I really hope there will be none. Otherwise - I am lost!

A few months ago I defriended the people who were posting nothing but tweet summaries. Doubt any of them noticed. I'm now down to about four friends who post at least once a week and a handful more who post at least once a month.

[identity profile] judith proctor (from livejournal.com) 2016-12-06 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
I've knocked several tweeters off my reading page. I'm keeping one, because she's my daughter in law and I need to be aware of family crises, but she's the only one.

Have a look at the "extensions" page of "my account settings". It seeme to have the tick boxes for cross postings to various social media, fb, twitter, etc.

[identity profile] twinfair.livejournal.com 2016-12-06 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
I have always used a customised layout and so I never see any of these changes in layout people mention. However, commenting here has brought up a whole list of options to post from that I have not seen before. Luckily, as I don't have Facebook and Twitter it cant do anything with them!

Your original post was from watervole but your comment was from Judith!

[identity profile] judith proctor (from livejournal.com) 2016-12-06 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
The layout is normal when I read my own journal, but my friend's page is all screwed up.

This will appear from Judith, and I don't know how to fix it.

this is a really stupid point, so apologies in advance if this isn't it, but sometimes... i have been really upset about the friends list change, and it's because some freak accident has caused me to be signed out of my LJ.

as myself i force the f-list to look the way i want it to look, and if i am just looking at 'aralias's f-list' then it looks like LJ wants it to look. so i wonder whether you have managed somehow to log out of LJ. this means you are looking at your logged out f-list page. now you've logged in as your facebook self, all your comments are comments from your facebook self.

You were right!

I had problems logging in a few weeks ago when it seemed to have forgotten my password and I used Facebook to log in.

I've now managed to log out of facebook and back in as watervole.

This post should come from Watervole.
