Sherlock rec - thanks

Katlinel recommended Rigging screws, 1 3/8, galvanised to me. Having read it, I agree, it's excellent!

A Sherlock (TV) story, it's a believable case fic, with dialogue that feels spot on and Sherlock's brain on over-drive.

It also has a really well-written original character - an intelligent middle-aged woman with an interest in sailing.  I know nothing about sailing, but the detail felt correct - I'm pretty sure the writer knows how to sail, or has a close friend who does.

The story grabbed me right from the start with a teaser involving metal corrosion - real science too!

I'm happily moving onto another rec.

Coincidentally I read that two weeks ago and totally agree.

That's a brilliant story - the writer is a friend of mine and she does sail.

Thanks for mentioning that, I've just followed the link and enjoyed the read.

Very glad to hear you enjoyed it. I had wondered about mentioning that the main character was a middle-aged woman. I know nothing about sailing but I know that AJHall does. My f-i-l used to sail and what he said about various yachting club types was very reminiscent of certain people in AJ Hall's fic.

If you wanted more of the same, there's also The Perilous Affair of the Batshit Blogger (link displays entire work), which is a bit dafter (it was inspired by real-life blogger) but also fun and with a suitably daft plot to match.

Hope you find some more satisfactory fics. I have been watching the recs with interest as I seem to be in the mood for long and plot-heavy fics at the moment as they're suiting my commute.

Downloaded without hesitation. Having looked at what else this author writes, I suspect I will be downloaded lots of shorts in a number of fandoms, including Lord Peter Whimsey, when I next feel in the mood for shorts.
