ebook readers - library books

I think the Sony wifi PRS-T1  just won outright.

You can borrow books from your local library on it.  (I just went to my library to check)

The Kindle is incompatible with library books.

I now know what I want for Xmas!

Decision made.

Please do let us know how you find using it, when you've got it.

How does that work? Can you order books online and download them at home, or do you need to go into the library? How do you return them?

I download from the library web site and they self-delete after three weeks.

Thanks. Sounds like an excellent rationale for getting one.

This is great!
I hope you will find it under your Christmas tree!

Sorry I am a little late to this discussion, but I was wondering if you had come across any ebook reader where it is possible to turn off the page counter?

The one way I think ebooks could possibly distinguish themselves, in a good way, from paper books in the actual reading experience, is the ability for a surprise ending to be a surprise both in plot terms and in story ending terms. With paper novels you know you are coming to the end and that this last twist is actually the last possible twist.

Not a feature I've consciously noticed, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was possible on some ebook readers, simply because it is so east to configure things. A lot of this kind of thing is hidden on the more obscure menus.

It depends on the reader; generally the 'full screen' view removes all the markers like progress. Certainly the Kindle software for the iPad only shows a 'progress indicator' when you bring up the controls.
