That's a credit card that just lost our business.
I find myself in need of an even angrier icon than Gene Hunt, but I don't have one equivalent to "I'll tear you into little pieces and then stamp on the pieces." -- Where's Arthur Dent when you need him?
We've had problems with the Capital One credit card before. It was enormously difficult and stressful to get them to add a second cardholder without screwing up. Some later problem (I forget exactly what now) made
waveney so annoyed that he cut his card in half and has never used it since. I persevered because it's a cash-back card and thus financially better to use.
However, today was the last straw.
I had a problem with the Mastercard equivalent of "verified by Visa" (and many of you may remember my saga with that) So when I hit a mismatch between password and card name, I phoned the helpline.
Went through the usual: "Are you the primary cardholder?" routine. I told them I wasn't, but that my husband preferred me to deal with Capital One (and all other credit cards, if the truth be told) because they'd pissed him off in the past and I have a lot more patience wading through the rigmarole banks expect you to go through these days.
So, we went through the usual "We have to speak to the primary cardholder" routine, and
waveney managed to contain himself long enough to answer all the security questions to prove who he was and then asked them to deal with me, please.
So I went away and talked to them a bit more, but it was useless. In spite of his clearly-stated request that he wished me to deal with the entire situation, they would not so much as confirm or deny the existence of a password (let alone establish if I was using the correct one - last time I had a problem of this kind, it turned out that I was indeed using the correct password, but my name had been entered wrongly by the card company in their records)
So that was pretty much it. Waveney wanted nothing further to do with them (and I can't really blame him). They were unwilling to help me verify the password on my own credit card. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but he wouldn't break the party line. I told him (and
waveney confirmed THAT down the phone) that we were cancelling the card - although we'll have to do that in writing.
How is it that I could go into town tomorrow and spend £6000 on that card (they seem to have increased the limit since we took it out), but I cannot be allowed to sort out a problem with the Mastercard security protocols even when the primary cardholder has specifically authorised this?
Back to our Visa card. At least they are willing to recognise that I'm allowed to speak to them.

It really drives me crazy. I've always been the one who handles the family finances, pays the bills, etc. It's getting harder and harder for me to do so.

"You pin-striped barbarians! I'll sue the Council for every penny it's got! I'll have you hung and drawn and quartered until... until you've had enough!
"And then I'll chop you into little bits and jump on them. And I'll keep on jumping on them until I get blisters or I can think of something even more unpleasant to do and..."
But I don't think that would be very legible :-)
(And that was all from memory!)

Although of course the quote does actually end with Arthur shouting "What the hell is THAT!" to which the response is "It's a fleet of flying saucers, what do you think it is?" but I'm sure I can work around that ;-)

I have similar woes re. my mother's Power of Attorney.

When you are shopping for another card, don't worry if it's the same brand (Visa/Mastercard), just make sure it's not the same bank under a different name. Use the reputation of the bank for deciding if they're going to be able to understand issues, or be idiots stuck on a script.
