Airlines are trying to avoid being involved in Emission Trading Schemes

Greenpeace campaigner Emily Armistead says: "Tony Blair is crossing his fingers and hoping someone will invent aeroplanes that don't cause climate change.

"But that's like holding out for cigarettes that don't cause cancer."

Indeed. I think a strong move towards carbon trading would give us a potential economic edge apart from being a good thing all round. The need is to price carbon at a level that gives businesses a real incentive to reduce emissions.

Japan moved early with legislation that reduced waste on electronic goods and now has a distinct market lead in that area, now that other countries are realising that they too have an electrical waste problem.
