Google scores again

I got a phone call yesterday to say that the hospital had had a cancallation and I could visit the department of oral surgery today (instead of in January). I accepted with alacrity and was there half and hour early this morning.

The doctor's diagnosis was exactly what I'd concluded myself with the aid of Google. Teeth grinding.

It's improved a lot as my stress levels have gone down, but I'm still getting some pain in the tooth and my jaw muscles were sore when he squeezed them.

He's taken an impression of my teeth to make a gaurd for wearing at night. Let's see if it helps.

I'm been wearing one for nearly twenty years - not the same one, obviously, it would be pretty messy by now. It's reduced the damage to my teeth, which is why I got it, but oddly enough I never seemed to experience any pain from the grinding, so I can't offer any predictions on that.

I get tremendous achiness in my jaw but not pain as such. Is it toothache you're getting? that might need fixing anyway if you've actually damaged a tooth.

I've never been able to wear it consistently enough to break the pattern of teeth grinding which is what i was told it would do, unlock my jaw - wearing it makes me feel sick and keeps me awake, I tend to wake up in the middle of the night and drag it off while not compos mentis.

When I destress a bit the teeth grinding tends to go down as well anyway.

I am not good at having large things in my mouth :)

Mostly jaw-ache, but tooth-ache if I am stressed or chew too much on that side of the mouth.
