Bank surveys

Phoned Barclays again as I'm still struggling with my community account. At the end of the phone call (which at least produced someone who knew what may actually be a valid online membership number for it) I was asked if I'd do a satisfaction survey for them.

I said yes, then changed my mind several seconds later when the survey began.

Why?

I'm calling them on an 0845 number. That's 3p a minute - some of which goes to them. Why should I pay for the priviledge of taking part in their survey? If they want to pay for the call, I might be willing, but not after I've already paid to sit on hold waiting for the phone to answer.

At least it wasn't an 0870 number. There're more like 7p or 8p a minute.

Go to www.paulenglish.com/ivr and
www.saynoto0870.com

The first site is ways to get around the automated systems for various organisations so you don't spend a fortune holding on waiting to speak to a human being and the second is about new legislation for 0870 numbers.

Off topic, I just posted a request for help here and [livejournal.com profile] lexin suggested I contact you.
Do you mind if I friend you? (I'm Grandad's wife! - he is [livejournal.com profile] grandad42)

I'm also a fan of 'say no to 0870'. I often use it. Unfortunately, the 'overseas' number I tried on this occasion only got me the general enquiries section - I had to use 0845 to get the specific help for complicated online banking.

I'm not sure who [livejournal.com profile] grandad42 is, though I suspect that I know him in real life given the number of friends we have in common in ZZ9. Feel free to friend me.

The Guardian has a rant about 0870 (http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,1661595,00.html) today.
