What Tarot card are you?

I was in Oxfam today (we'd gone there to find clothes for Molly. She needs things that can be put on by someone with plaster from just above the shoulder to just below the elbow - *big* sleeves are the order of the day) and I browsed though various books. The natural history section didn't have any good ones, so I tried the esoteric. My opinion of most esoteric stuff is that it's a load of complete and utter tripe, but I do have a weakness for Tarot cards.

There's a lot of things I don't believe about Tarot, but I do believe it's a good guide to pulling things from your unconscious mind. The symbolism is extremely useful and there's been a couple of times when reading the cards has really made me stop and think.

Anyway, the book fell open at the hanged man. This is an image of a man suspended from a tree by his ankle. His wrists are behind him, presumably bound together. Unexpectedly for a man in such a position, he has a relaxed, serene expression on his face.

The card has several possible meanings, but one of the main ones is self-knowledge and acceptence of yourself as you are.

I thought, "I know who that is." dougs I love it when image and meaning blend so perfectly.




I turned again and came to Temperence. This is me. Or rather, this is what I need to be. The card merely crystallised thoughts I'd been having for several days. The picture, for those wanting to know, is of a woman pouring water from one jug into another. She often has one foot on land and the other in a pool of water. Sometimes she is portrayed as an angel with wings.

I need to calm down, to be more temperate. I also need to use my ability to teach ('Temperance' also reflects knowledge passing from one vessel onto another). The card also tells me to slow down, to flow with the world and to be less hasty.

Anyone else want to know what card I see them as? And why? If I don't know you well enough to select the right card, then I'll take one at random and see what it tells me. (I've got two decks - if I'm choosing, then I'll use the Waite deck as that's the one I visualise in my head. If I'm picking at random, then you can have either the Waite deck or the Lord of the Rings deck.)

The Moon

I went through the deck and picked out half a dozen likely cards (including the two of cups which was the one I had expected you to be for several reasons), but when I came to the Moon, I knew intuitively that it was the right one for you.
The card shows the moon, high above a road eading far into the distance. The road is guarded by two towers. A dog and a wolf on either side of the road are howling at the moon. In the water at the bottom of the card, a rayfish crawls out onto the dry land.
The moon is the card of our fears and our nightmares. It is strongly associated with the zodiac sign of Cancer (I don't have any truck with astrology, but the link in your case is undeniable)
However, the reason this card is yours is that you have a journey to travel.
The road is long and narrow and beset with fears. There are things on the way that you have to battle past. The towers are well guarded, yet the road passes between them.
The dog and the wolf are the things in your unconscious mind which sap your morale and lead you to fear things that are not in themself dangerous and all the time, you are fleeing from the thing crawling out of the water (cancer).
The lesson of the card is this: The road is there. The journey can be made. There is a route past the nightmares and the powers that would stop you. The road is long and winding, but each step made along it is a gain. Each step is a move towards passing the barriers.
The road is there. You can travel it.

Thank you, this is interesting stuff. And I certainly feel like I'm on some sort of (potentially treacherous) journey at the moment! I hope I'll someday make it to my destination. :)
