Henry's 18 today

My youngest son is now officially an adult.

He looks pretty much the same as he did yesterday. Hair that makes Bob Geldorf look well-groomed, a complete lack of clothes sense (he gets that from me and his father), tall and good-looking (Hey, I'm biased), intelligent, too shy to say what he really wants to say to girls (Probably genetic too. I don't think his dad ever actually managed to ask me out on a date), great at any kind of strategy game (definitely runs in the family), eats reasonably sensibly (though I wonder how long that will last at university when he hasn't got his dad to do the cooking), doesn't drink (doesn't care much for the taste and isn't interested in getting drunk - his brother is exactly the same).

He's also one of my dearest friends.

People always told me to watch out for the teenage years. Boys are supposed to become rude, aggressive, stroppy, etc. I guess I've just been lucky.

Henry shares my tastes in TV and movies. We watched 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' yesterday, and we loved it. We watch 'DS9' and 'The West Wing' together and discuss them. I can even get him to go out for a walk with me sometimes. I'm sure he must swear on occasion, but I can't recall him ever swearing at me. He's learning to cook, but has some way to reach his father's standard. He likes books. He's helpful when I'm ill. He has even been known to tidy his bedroom...

It's going to be very empty here when he goes to university. I love Richard dearly, but he isn't an SF fan. Watching things on your own isn't quite the same.

Happy 18th Birthday to Henry!

Good kids are usually an indication of good parents... :)

Happy Birthday to him
Happy Birthday to him
Happy Birthday to Henry...!

(Yes, I know, awful - but then it'd be worse if you could actually hear me :)

Happy Birthday Henry!

All my memories of Henry are from before he could walk - he was a gorgeous baby (and I am not a lover of babies). And then later, when he could walk a bit and Richard had to fix the computer with the "Henry key" after he messed with the keyboard and deleted something... heh heh heh...

And despite seeing him at regular intervals since, I still tend to think of him as a rather cute ten-year-old. Better not tell him I said that, but happy birthday Henry.

It does make a difference when the youngest becomes an adult. Mine was in April. She still hasn't passed here driving test, so I'm the family taxi, but the place and time has changed. She's trying to find a night club that serves pots of tea, strange child but nice

Wish Henry a happy birthday from a total stranger.

kalypso isn't the only one who has to remember that he is no longer a cute ten-year-old. :-) Happy birthday, Henry.

Happy Birthday

Alastair, Megan and especially Christine (who's still determined she's going to marry him!)
