 It's been an interesting week...

I have one dearly loved grandchild who has just turned ten - Oswin.  Her mama had such a bad pregnancy that another kid was out of the question.

Oswin's uncle married a lovely lady who didn't want children.  He would have loved children, but she really is a lovely woman and was perfect for him in every other regard, so he married her, accepting that condition.

I, in turn, accepted that I would never have another grandchild - put hope out of my mind. Hope can corrode away at you when no result comes from it, and can also encourage you to pester people.

But times change.  It's been a long wait, but earlier this week, my son reduced me to instant tears by showing me an ultrasound scan of a tiny baby!

I can't wait for late October!

Oh my, oh my!!! I am so happy for you!!! I just keep my fingers crossed for the new baby and the mom. What a wonderful thing!!!

I thought you would be the first to reply! I know you understand exactly how much it means to me.

Part of me, oddly enough, is a bit scared. Will my health remain good enough to be able to do things with the new baby?

How much time will I be able to spend with him/her? Her parents will both work part time and take an equal share in looking after the baby (which I think is a great way to do it) Will they ask me and Richard to do a regular day? I hope so.

Oswin loves the idea of a new cousin. I hope she never works out the math (or doesn't mind) that she will now inherit far less when Richard and I die...

The blood tests say my daughter in law is low-risk, so hopefully all will go fine. (But I will admit that I probably won't totally relax for about six months!)

I can imagine! I can also imagine the days will alternate between going very fast and far too slowly.
Glad Oswin is happy too.
