Livejournal and Dreamwidth

I'm seeing a large number of people shifting over to Dreamwidth as they don't like the new LJ terms of service.  Some are using it as their main journal and cross-posting, others are deleting their Livejournals and only using Dreamwidth.

If you're moving over, I would suggest importing your journal content to Dreamwidth  BEFORE abandoning it. (assuming you want to keep your old posts)

IF you look on the Dreamwidth 'profile' page, under the 'organise' tab, you'll find the 'import content'.  As long as you can remember your LJ password, you can import your Livejournal and comments in total. (there will probably be a delay as a lot of people are importing at present)

I'm 'watervole' on Dreamwidth as well.

People move because LJ has translated user data from Russia to servers located in Moscow. Thus, the American company bent under Russian laws. Now there is no anonymity of users LJ. All personal information is available to the police and special services. In Russia, imprisoned for criticizing the authorities in blogs and social networks. In 2016, more than 80 people were convicted.

A new user agreement LJ fixes this provision about the absence of anonymity. Moreover, it establishes responsibility not only for the content of its post, but also for the content of comments. Anyone commented on your entry with curses against the Russian authorities and you will be in prison instead of him.

People who do not want to tolerate the arbitrariness of the Russian authorities flee from LJ. Dreamwidth is simply the closest site in terms of capabilities. Unfortunately, there is no full alternative for LJ.

Wow, I didn't realize you'd be held responsible for *comments* on your LJ. Fortunately for me, I turned off commenting on my LJ a long time ago. I keep it now just for the photo host (mostly plants and birds and insects in my yard with the occasional soft toy animal, which I doubt even the current Russian gov. would consider a threat.)
