Learning curve

I am rapidly learning far more than I ever wanted to know about lasting powers of attorney, inheritance tax and the job of an executor.  I suspect I'm going to have to use the first very soon, and the later two a lot sooner than I would like...

Thank goodness Molly is a very practical person. She filled out the power of attorney six years ago - at a time when she was fully able to cope with everything and had no serious illnesses of any kind. She trusted us not to use it until it was needed, and it's sat in a drawer from that day until now.

She sorted out her will and executors long ago.

I also have a fair idea of her medical wishes. I know she does not want invasive surgery, and does not wish to hang around if her mind has gone (watching her husband die gave her strong views on the subject)

You need to hit B's parents over the head with a sledgehammer. Perhaps talk about Molly and how the fact that she made all these decisions in advance is making it simpler for her to respect her wishes and do what she needs us to do.

She's too exhausted to deal with financial stuff now, and if she hadn't already written her will, I suspect she'd be too tired to be able to work it all out.
