Misc doom and gloom
Came close to my worst nightmare today and still don't know if I'll successfully
avoid it.
There are times when my voice goes. I've had the problem for 15 years or so and
it doesn't happen nearly as often as it used to, but my work is triggering it
too often of recent. Lots of talking is a bad idea. I try to limit to two days
a week, but things throw that out on occasion (I was asked to fill in at short
notice) - and now I'm having to cancel work because I can't talk at all. C'est
la vie.
There are times when my neck/shoulder go and I can't write or type. It's forced
me off mailing lists, almost completely stopped me from zine editing and cut
down a lot on my fan writing.
The nightmare is when the voice and the shoulder go at the same time and I can
neither phone my friends nor write to them.
I'm perilously close to that state now. Stress is making both worse. Just when
I most need contact with people...
If you're one of the people who would normally phone me, please don't. Even
whispering down the phone is more than I can manage without damaging the voice
even further. Complete rest is my only hope.
People I'm e-mailing - expect me to be slow or don't be surprised if I suddenly
stop for a week. I can still type a bit, but don't know how long that will
hold. (I'm going to see if Richard can clean the keyboard - if he can make the
keys lighter to press, then that will help)
avoid it.

That really is nightmarish to lose your two major modes of communication just when you most need to communicate. :(
Do what you need to do -- complete rest, if that's what it takes -- to recover as soon as you can. We'll still be here for you when you return, and meanwhile we'll be sending good thoughts in your direction (and Rosalie's).

Random wibbling...
Other Half got back from Japan yesterday, and was stupid enough to go to work. He's got off an overnight trans-Pacific flight from a time zone several hours away, and he goes to work... Back when I was commuting across the Atlantic, *my* boss ordered me not to even think about coming into work the same day that I got back, when I casually mentioned that I would be back at lunchtime and could theoretically come in for the afternoon. Didn't actually come right out and say that I'd be too bloody jet-lagged to be anything but a damned nuisance to everyone around me, but that's what he meant. Bit of a cultural difference there. :-/
He overslept a bit this morning, and I did *not* wake him up, on the grounds that he probably needed it. It wasn't as if he was going to be late to work anyway, just on time instead of early. Fortunately it's the weekend tomorrow. This will not stop him going in to catch up on things, but at least he'll be sensible enough to sleep in if necessary.
Predatrix and I have been going great guns on the latest volume of The Syndicate - 1000 words a day for the last three days. At this rate it'll be finished by the end of next week. Netmeeting is a wonderful tool when it works properly, as it has been this week. Might do a bit of fanfiction after that, although I still have to do some novel query packets before starting any more fiction projects.
Had an email from an anthology publisher apologising for the delay in making the final selection, and did not realise for a day what "final selection" implied - my story has probably already made it past a preliminary cut. Even if I don't make the final cut, it is good that I'm getting a good run of not being chucked out on the first pass. :-)

Didn't realise you were on LJ but have a HUG now I've found you.
You obviously need it.

You need to baby your throat, as you are doing. Andplease, if possible, get a touch keyboard or a good massage therapist for your wrist hands and shoulders.
You have my prayers!
