Blakes 7 fic on Hermit moving to AO3

The Hermit Blake's 7 web site will be closing down soon.

The team on AO3 asked if they could archive stories from the site on AO3 and I've said I'm fine with this.

I'm assuming that the majority of writers who submitted stories to Hermit will be happy with this as it ensures their stories can still be read.

I no longer have contact details for most of the writers, and most of those I still know where to find are on DW/LJ.

If you don't want your stories to be ported to AO3, please let me know.

I don't think you've got anything of mine, but most of my B7 fic is on AO3 already, so I wouldn't want it duplicated.

I'm fine with that but like Kalypso, it might result in duplicates.

I would be fine with it... except that my stories are already on AO3. How does one avoid duplication?

Aralias
(http://aralias.dreamwidth.org)
Has put up a Google docs spreadsheet which you can edit to indicate your works are on AO3.

(I don't have anything to do with the project beyond having a few fic that will get transferred. I suggest you contact Aralias if you have any questions.)

I'd rather not have mine (Firerose) auto-loaded to AO3. I think all mine are backed up elsewhere and in my previous experience, the autoloading plays hell with the formatting.

I'm sorry to see it go. Thanks for the pleasure it's given, and the welcome you gave a new fan.

Will the Sevencyclopedia be available anywhere else? It's such a great resource.

In that case I may lift 'The Machiavelli Factor' and post it myself, which I would prefer to do. 'Quibell' is already on AO3.

I'm pretty sure I've already got all the stories I want archived on AO3 there already, under my currently preferred pseud. So anything by "Belatrix Carter," "Betty Ragan," or "AstroGirl" is probably better left out of the import. Thanks! (And thanks for hosting it all these years!)

There's a useful document here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZPE0JVx51I0ceCCyOiP016GgwVlb8B4JXNV-uJ20oic/edit#gid=0) that you can use to indicate what you won't want moved.

Handy, thanks!

Will the essays move? Or are they going to be lost?

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2015-05-31 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I hadn't thought of that! I do hope so... Chris Blenkarn's wonderful little piece on writing a Blakes 7 story is way too good to lose.

(Oh dear, another ps - if the essays do go to Ao3, could you leave mine out and I'll put them up under my usual login?)

I have no problem - most of mine are already there as well :)

Thank you for having the site for all those years... it meant a lot when I didn't know where to put them (and thank you for the scripts as well :)

Great idea! I'm glad it's going to be hosted there.

Can you define "soon"? I would like to check what is there and what I am happy to have moved.

Please leave any of my stuff out of the move. That includes the reviews and other non-fiction - I am not happy that a few years ago someone started lifting them wholesale and copying them to Fanlore without bothering to ask me, nor am I happy with the organisation's response when I discovered this and objected. Fic pseuds are Julia Stamford and Helen Patrick.

And thanks for hosting the site for so long. I know how much work it's been for you and Waveney over the years.

Hello, from a relatively new B7 fan (as an adult anyway!). I'd also like to thank you for hosting the site for so many years. I don't think I'd have become as big a fan without it. I certainly wouldn't own so many zines!

However, I was wondering exactly when Hermit is coming down, because I would really like to save or print out some non-story stuff from the site. I hope I'm not being too forward, but I've just clicked over randomly from aralias livejournal.

So is Hermit still around or not? I've been unable to access any page on it for some time and assumed the hosting had finally been withdrawn as per years of warnings, but search results (which give an error when clicked upon) are still showing up on Google, and apparently other people can still view the pages that give a 'not found' error here....
