Still alive
Apologies for not posting anything in ages...
I've been very busy with the bookshop, and mostly recovering from being tired when I'm not in the shop.
I'm mostly, but not entirely, over the costochondritis. I'm able to morris dance again, which is a massive plus, though I still tire more easily than I should.
Oswin is over 8 months old now. She's an absolute delight, apart from mid-afternoon when she tends to suffer from colic...
Taking her shopping is great fun. She absolutely loves people and beams happily at shop assistants, people in queues and pretty much anyone in sight. People adore her right back, chat to her and smile. She loves it!
I'm massively behind with my email for the same reasons as I'm bad at posting here. I'd promise to catch up over Xmas, but we only get a four day break from the shop.
We've got several new volunteers in the bookshop now and that's made a big difference. We're clearing through incoming stock faster - which is a good thing as we're attracting more donations now.
Sales were very good during the height of the tourist season in Dorchester, dropped off in October and early November, but have picked up now with the Xmas market. We're selling quite a lot of books as gifts. We've been saving up small, attractive, stocking-filler type books all year and they're flying off our sales table.
I have a new concertina - my old one had been used for many years and was leaking around the bellows. I'm now actually well enough to play it, though I still can't do long stints without my chest starting to ache.
Basically, life is on a gentle upwards curve at present.
Anonymous Morris lost one of our best dancers to a new job in another area, but we hope to keep in touch and meet up occasionally. However, we've got two new recruits, so things look promising in that direction.
Right now, I'm busy wrapping Xmas gifts and wishing that the shop closed for longer over the holiday as I'd really like a longer break and more relaxation time to spend with the family. Having said that, it's good to have a steady income. It may not be a large income, but the bank balance is going slowly up rather than slowly down (hence the ability to finally buy a new concertina which I really needed two years ago).
I'd take you all some photos of various things, but my camera died recently. All photos are interesting splodges of purple and yellow with occasionally recognisable features blurred in.
On the whole, life is a LOT better than this time last year.
