Games for nephews

Lots of good suggestions-thanks everyone

I've just phoned my brother in law to find out the likely number playing a normal game and that's affected the final choice.

I think the best ones to come out were:

Totemo - (but loses out against the others because of price)

Carcasonne - will probably get this as it works well with 2-3 players

Braggart - which is a simple game with a bit of fun, but works best with more people than they usually play with

Flash Point - which I would recommend to others looking for a co-operative game.  (It looks a little similar to the game I got them for the last birthday, otherwise this would have been my first choice)  The players have to work as a team to rescue people from a burning building. See here for video review.

Boardgamegeek is very useful for finding the best number of players for a game.

It's going to be Carcassonne or Flash Point, but probably Carcasonne.

Carcassonne is definitely good, also there's lots of (cheap) expansions which let you change the emphasis of the game so it doesn't become stagnant.

Braggart is also fun, I introduced my nephews to it last Xmas and we had great fun hamming it up with declarations of "You, Sir, are a Liar! For I happen to know that you did not, in fact, win a battle against the Gladiator Champion of a nearby Kingdom, but merely an unfortunate trout!" :-)

Although I rather like cooperative games (eg Lord of the Rings, Pandemic etc) Flashpoint annoys me because you've just rescued someone from a room in a burning building and then *someone else* turns up in exactly the same location! Where did they come from? Why didn't you see them when you were rescuing the last person? Grrr!!!

My son bought me Carcasonne for Christmas a couple of years and and then went off to London leaving me with only BB who does not play board games. I've never even taken it for a spin yet. Maybe this Christmas...
