Wood carving

Alex Holden has taken up whittling.  He's just made me the most lovely little knife.  I asked him to do one with the old EDFSS (English Folk Dance and Song Society) logo on it - a set of crossed longswords.  Not exactly the easiest  thing, but he's carved them in relief as well!

And on the other side, a top hat for a morris dancer!

It's a butter spreader, only it's so lovely that I'm not sure I'll ever be able to  bring myself to use it for spreading butter...

Thank you Alex!

Lovely. I'm not sure I'd use it as a butter spreader either - though for different reasons. I like a little bit of flexibility in my butter blades. I get those lovely old-fashioned bone (or plastic) handled knives, especially for spreading, whenever I see them in junk shops or car boot sales. The carved knife is so lovely to look at I'd want it on display.

This is really a lovely, delicate piece of woodwork! YEs, I agree, it is too lovely to use it really.

How lovely! My Granny had a couple of EDFSS brooches with that logo on. I meant to hold onto one but failed.
