I'd been wondering why it was almost impossible for me to read LJ recently.  Getting it to load was a nightmare.  Henry's away today, and everything is working perfectly.

I'm guessing that Skyrim and other games were a big part of the problem.

We're going to have to agree on some hours for not playing online computer games so that I  can have some sensible internet access.

Livejournal seemed to have problems yesterday, for what it's worth. I couldn't get at it either, and we have ample bandwidth (100Mbit/s).

Looked very much like it, yes.

That was what they said in the status report. You can usually get at that at http://status.livejournal.org/ which is independently hosted.

Seems to have started again. Maybe it's something to do with Putin's electoral rally.

In fact, I've just noticed that The Guardian made the same assumption - see tenth par of this article from today's paper.

That's what the status page reported yesterday morning when it started.

I think it is worth checking that explicitly before taking any drastic action.

Just to note that Skyrim's not an online game. It's purely on whatever machine it's loaded on - my version is PS3.

If it is bandwidth, it might be possible to set up some suitable traffic prioritisation on your home router. (I say "might" because home-level kit often doesn't offer this option...)
