Password rant...

If a password with two symbols, a mixture of upper and lower case letters and three numerals isn't strong enough for Paypal, then what the **** is?

I'm trying to set up a new Paypal account and all my password suggestions are being rejected, apart from one it decided was strong, and then rejected a page later for having an accent (which it didn't).

I've given up for now.  This is hitting the RSI too badly.

That is annoying and baffling.

I just use the word password. Seems to work OK and if i forget it I have it written on a post-it note on the monitor just to remind me.

Older accounts were allowed more sensible passwords. My personal Paypal password is one I can remember, but if I were try to use the equivalent on a new account, it would be disallowed.

About a decade ago I bought a job lot of old Sun servers and disk drives at auction. They came from some government department and hadn't been erased (terribly boring stuff; civil service pension records or some such). Just for fun I decided to have a go cracking the root password on one of them. You guessed it: 'password'.

Sadly, because I'm with XKCD all the way, this is exactly the kind of password that Paypal regards as weak and won't allow. A logical variation of that was the first thing I tried.

I use a firefox addon called lastpass that can generate and keep track of passwords for you. When paypal rejects your password you could just ask lastpass to generate another one rather than thinking one up yourself.

I prefer passwords I can remember. You never know when you'll be on a strange computer and need to use your password.

How about "ScrewU-Pay-Pal!" ;-)

Try "';DROP DATABASE '%';'" :-P

See, this is the reason why I can't remember anything these days - too &*$^& complicated passwords...!
