Solar questions

For those who haven't read all the comments:

1. If there is a power cut the panels cut out as well, because if they kept generating the national
grid would still be getting charge going back on to it (remaining live) and would be unsafe to work on. There have been some interesting comments with regard to batteries, but these would not be applicable to free panels as the leasing arrangement states that Home Sun own the panels and all other associated equipment and you are not allowed to fit anything on to the system. (I thought that was the cases, but I just asked Trevor to make sure I had the details right)

If anyone does decide to get panels from Home Sun or is contacting them for a survey, I'd much appreciate the referral fee (for my fund for buying a maypole, or for charity if you prefer), so please do tell them that you heard about it from Judith Proctor.

If you'd rather contact a person (especially if you have any questions) than go through the web site, you can call Trevor - the guy we dealt with, who was helpful and non-pushy - on 07880 567 500. He says he's happy to answer any questions people may have - again, mention my name.

Sorry to be a nuisance, but I think it's this post that has broken my friends view due to a lack of word wrapping - it now makes the entire view as wide as your longest sentence. I think this is probably the joy of how LJ handles information pasted in, or maybe some odd glitch between Dreamwidth and here (though your subsequent post doesn't have this problem). Could I ask you to put in a shedload of carriage returns or hid the whole thing between a cut tag?

Like I said, sorry to be a nuisance but the issue is making it very hard to read other entries on my Flist (also - sorry for bothering you if it's not your post that's doing it).

It's probably because I cut and pasted some answers that Trevor sent me.

I've done an edit that may help. Let me know if there's still a problem and I'll try again.

Sorry - still doing it.

I thought it was pasting in being the problem as the font is not the usual one :-)

Trying something different...

Home Sun say my house is not suitable, and from the information they have and have returned they are probably right. I'm not going to take this any further right now. I have left my name with them to contact me about ground source heat pumps when they have those ready to go.

They say don't reply to their email so it's too late to mention you by name. By all means give them my name and tell them I asked because of you - if they contact me I'd be happy to confirm the referral.

That's what I liked about them. They don't try and get you to take a system unless it's apropriate.

Referral fees are only if your roof is suitable, but thanks for thinking of me.

I suspect heat pumps are only economic for new houses, but if the price falls (or the government offer grants) I'd be very interested.

I will certainly pass on your name if our house is found to be suitable for installation.

For batteries, I was thinking about normal plug-in mains chargers, not connected directly to the solar system. After all, I do charge my toothbrush, torches and various other gadgets already :)

That kind of charger would be no problem at all. What's the maximum likely amount that one can store that way? It would need to hold at least 2kWh to be of practical benefit.
