Czech Xmas Biscuits

Look what I got in the post yesterday from my friend Vjezkova!  Aren't they wonderful!

Vera shares my love of folk customs and season traditions.

These are gingerbread biscuits from the Czech Republic.  St Nicholas, Devil and Angel.

On December 5th, St Nicholas's day, people dress up in these costumes.  You can read more about it here.

Those are awesome!

These days, Norwegian gingerbread figures barely get a smiley face drawn on them, or some green squiggles if it's a tree shape. I've never seen any even remotely as elaborate or pretty as those.

I am glad they arrived in one piece. That website you put here is good, thank you!

I can remember putting out little red boots with hay in for St Nicholas' reindeer as he (and Black Peter) went over Germany and getting excited in the morning when dweets (rather than lups of coal) were left for me :-))

Made Christmas seem that little bit nearer
