Face detection...

I'm having great fun with the camera Kelvin gave me for my birthday yesterday.  It's exactly the right kind of camera for me - idiot proof and easy to use.

I'm checking out some of the features and find to my amusement that 'intelligent face detection' only works on people without beards.  I thought at first I was using it wrong as neither of my test subjects (Richard and Henry) were picked out by the software, but when the camera was pointed at me, it worked just fine!

Ah, the problem is that it only detects intelligent faces! *g*

Well, yes, it's intelligent *face* detection, not intelligent *beard* detection ;-)

Perhaps it only detects intelligent faces. i.e. those who can't use a razor aren't included.

That's a cutting remark...

Sorry if I made anyone bristle?

So long as I was on the right side by at least a hairsbreadth.

I'm surprised that you dared to beard the lion in his lair!

I'm sure they can keep their chin up.

[identity profile] davidwake.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Surely we can squeeze another one in by a whisker?

Not a cat in hell's chance!

[identity profile] davidwake.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
So we've moved away from beards and onto cats, sphynx-like.

It's a riddle to me how you manage it.

I thought the bearded were too intelligent to waste time shaving.

Nah, just lazy.

Funny, ours worked on a stuffed toddler-sized Santa on a shelf in our living room ...

I love the exchange here! I hope that these are called "pun"?:-)

'puns' because there's several of them.

Well spotted.

It was getting a bit hairy for a while...

Grin. Your real challenge is to try and add another pun to the ever-growing string.

Difficult I admit, but if you comb through your dictionary, you never know what you might come up with... Brush up your English and give it a shot!

(that was another two puns, just in case you missed them)

*sigh* Oh dear, this is a really big challenge...I am afraid I may find this a hard nut to crack...but one spoiled girl in a host English family once called me "nuts"...so...:-):-)

The trick is to think of lots of related words like beard, hair, brush, comb, chin, shave, bristle, razor, etc. and then think of how many of those have a secondary meaning or can be used in a different context. (also look out for phrases or quotes that use those words)

Eg. the word sharp (or Sharpe...) has yet to be used. As a follow on to something about razors, it could work. Or razor could be followed by 'raze' or raise.

Pun fests are a very English game. Fish puns seem to be the most catching, but others arise spontaneously on occasion.
