In our father's defence, I would add that he reads usenet more than he reads the paper, and has done so for about 30 years (and a usenet committe member). He uses acronymns like RTFM, and campaigned against the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Bill. Not a gossip-ey person by any stretch of the imagination. So I think taking the Daily Mail is a habit of the necessary evil type, like mowing the lawn and pruning the roses. Also, anything for a quiet life.
