Vertigo verdict

Sadly, the results of the MRI scan didn't show anything. My ear/auditory nerve/brain are all fine (which is good if you look at it one way). However, it also means that I'm among the fairly large percentage of people who suffer from vertigo with no definite cause.

I can tell you what will trigger it with a fair degree of accuracy (and what will not)  - I can generally minimise it if I stay away from the computer long enough and stay outdoors a fair bit of the time. What I can't do, is to find an underlying cause that can be treated medically.

A lot of cases of vertigo vanish as mysteriously as they came - I'll just have to hope that mine is among them.  I don't think it's as bad as it was a few months ago (I rarely get nausea now), but using the computer seems to trigger it as easily as ever (I'm feeling dizzy even as I type this).

Hopefully it will fade over time.

Fingers crossed.

I'm sorry the MRI showed no result, that's frustrating. I hope it gets better soon.

I have a form of tinnitus - a constant high pitched whine in my right ear that can be very trying but sometimes fades until something makes me aware it's still there. Like you I had an MRI scan that showed nothing amiss. Which I took to mean "we can't see a tumour, so you're probably all right".

Vertigo is far more debilitating - I have a friend who had an attack while driving over the Severn Bridge and had to stop and be rescued. But he hasn't had an attack for several years now, so there's hope!

I'm deliberately avoiding driving at present. I don't think I'm safe. My reflexes are poor when the vertigo sets in - even though what I have is mild compared to what many people suffer from.

I sympathise with the tinnitus - I had it for a while, but fortunately that went about a month ago.

I have mild three-tone tinnitus in both ears, and asymmetric hearing impairment, with no signals from the MRI as to causes.

I hope so. In the meantime, the mitigating measures don't sound too awful as long as you have good company and the right clothing?

It's a bit of a pain when it comes to convention work as I can't answer as many emails as I need to.

Well at least the lack of anything detectable on the MRI is, as you say, a good thing in that it's probably not a symptom of something more serious, but it's still a bugger :-(

As I've mentioned in the past, I had a virus for 6 months that screwed up my sense of balance such taht I'd be walking along the pavement and suddenly find myself drifting off to one side, but at least it wasn't as bad as what you have. Eventually it did go away on its own, so, indeed, fingers crossed it will fade :-)

That seems to be going around. Mysterious ailments that the doctors can't seem to pin down. Hopefully it will fade over time for you.

My sympathies. A non-diagnosis is deeply annoying. I had a sore throat that sometimes bled a little after talking a lot or singing which I eventually saw an ENT specialist about and they found absolutely nothing. Luckily it cleared up on its own eventually...

Fingers crossed.

I am really glad they didn“t find anything evil! I am also reall sorry that you have to suffer for no evident reason, but I will join you with keeping my fingers crossed - it may do something :-):-)*Hugs*

I presume with the computer that you've got a reasonably new monitor or a TFT screen? Cos a lot of my problems with screens this year were much improved by getting a decent monitor.. still have to be careful mind :(

Screen resolution appears not to be the problem. It's moving images that trigger it, including scrolling down screen.

Fingers crossed it goes soon.
