Hard Slog at the Allotment

Sometimes, there is just so much hard work on the allotment....

You have to get the entire family to help on occasion.

I mean, quality testing on the strawberries - you wouldn't believe how many you need to sample to be sure the flavour is just right...

And the sheer slog of walking all the way from the kitchen to the back garden to pick raspberries.  I mean, there's so many of the darn things.

And the extra bill for all the cream!

Shocking.

Not to mention the mountain of crisp, mangetout peas that have to be dealt with.  Admittedly, I can't complain that I have to shell them, but I'm sure I'll think of something to complain about if I really work at it.

I know my friends. You're a truly selfless group of people, and I'm sure you'd help out if you could, but I think we can just about manage the struggle on our own...

You forgot all the Tayberries, I have to fill a bowl every morning just to stop the weight breaking the plant.

Please, what are the Tayberries? I know the Tay is a river (?)...

Ah, thank you! Mmmm...I have got a thornless blackberry with huuuuge yummy berries (actually one plant which I bent and it sprouted lots of shoots).

Oh. You poor, poor things.

I'd really *love* to help, but I'm busy with my own strawberry harvest. My sister and brother-in-law have kindly helped me taste test a large punnet of strawbs to see whether they're best with cream or ice cream. They're also sampling my new potatoes and mint to compare them against Tesco's finest, and have even agreed to pick themselves some fruit whilst I'm away this week. The raspberry harvest begins now too, so they'll be *really* busy sampling those!

You've worked jolly hard on your allotment and I wish you an excellent and bountiful harvest. Enjoy.

You have peas.

[**rages with jealousy**] Ours (in the garden and at the allotment) have yet to set a single flower.

Such a nice comment and yes, I know what you are speaking about :-)
