The Xmas wish list meme
It's the Christmas wish list meme....

Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true.
Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
My own nature reserve. I've wanted this as long as I can remember. Ancient Woodland would be best, but I'm not proud; I'll settle for anything as long as it's not got toxic chemicals contaminating it.
A soft, leather, light-weight flogger. I have no excuse for owning one, as I have no occasion to use it. I still want one.
America and China to take serious action to reduce CO2 emissions. Look, I can dream, can't I?
A few incense cones for my pottery dragon (not lavender). I'm unlikely to use many as the smoke would probably irritate, but I'd love to watch him breathing smoke through his nostrils just a couple of times.
A set of camouflage gear. US style, as I'm still into Stargate when it comes to fancy dress costumes.
dougs and
scarlatti to find happiness together.
My daughter outlaw to discover fruit and vegetables and to start eating lots of different kinds of them every day.
A well-written story with Maybourne and Carter in it, either gen or adult.
A new pair of Afghan socks. Oxfam used to sell these every year, but they don't now, and I need a new pair. They're brightly coloured, woollen, high-calf-length socks with leather soles and I wear them around the house all winter. I don't care about the colour - I tend to get cold feet, and they're *warm*. My feet are size 8.
Silk scarves. I'm a complete sucker for hand-painted silk scarves (or even plain ones at a pinch). The only rule is that they must come from a charity shop and cost an absolute maximum of three pounds (under a pound scores bonus points). I like nearly all colours, but want abstract patterns not geometic or figurative designs.
My contact details are in my user info and also (if you're on my friend's list), on the first posting in this journal. If you're not on my friends list and can manage one of the above, the friend's list is likely to be rapidly edited...

If I were to knock up a wish list it would *all* be stuff like that - things that make the world a better place. And things that nobody can grant. Nothing for myself. It's one reason why I try not to do Christmas.

I'm adopting a dolphin for my neice for Xmas - and ensuring I pay enough so that the money covers more than just sending her a cuddly toy.

Also, I think the original idea of the meme was to cheer people up and reconnect to each other after the rotten electoral season we've just had. Giving a gift to somebody you don't agree with or don't even know - it builds empathy and goodwill, and those things should make the world a better place, too.
