Programme Frustration

Since Redemption finished, I've been making slow, steady progress on the programme for Odyssey.

I'm now hitting a really frustrating problem in that the email is screwing further progresss.

A day or two ago, I wrote to one possible programme participant, then I became aware that messages to me were bouncing, so I wrote to them again to say that if they'd replied I wouldn't have seen it, only for them to reply that they hadn't seen the original email.

In short, I daren't send any programme related emails until this is all sorted out.  Either mine won't reach them, or their replies won't reach me.  Either way, I get the wrong idea that they aren't interested, or they assume that I'm not interested.

I've got loads of bits and pieces all over the place that I want to follow up, and I'm now settled nicely into the frame of mind for doing it.

I want to bounce ideas off my deputies.  I want to talk to people who've offered to help.  I want to write to people who've never heard of me and say:  'Hey, someone suggested you'd be really great for this item'.

Grrr.

Would it be worth setting yourself up a temporary account in Gmail?

I could (I do in fact have one that I'd forgotten until you mentioned it - it normally forwards to my other address). If this hasn't cleared up in the next day or two, then I may have to go that route. Thanks.

That is really frustrating.

Sympathetic answer: sorry to hear this, I hope it all gets sorted out soon

GAS answer: get a googlemail account, send emails from there, ask people to copy your email account and the googlemail account in replies ... set up googlemail to read your POP3/IMAP mail account (without deleting the entries) so as/when it is working all those answers will *also* appear in googlemail.

This will allow you to keep working now.

I'll second that. That is what I did when my ISP's email started bouncing a random 10-20% of my emails a couple of weeks ago, but I was also able to re-direct the email to my domain address to the Gmail too. I may not switch back, it's proving a lot more reliable.

LOL ISPs should learn from this.

Yes, this is exactly what I do.

If you need me to respond to anything feel free to do a 'shout-out' via LJ - I keep pretty up-to-date!

I know you feel I leave things a lot too late on the programme, but the con is still a long way off, so there is plenty of time to sort things out once the techie issues are resolved. Just hope that this doesn't happen nearer the time when it will be really crucial. Nevertheless, I do sympathise. There is nothing worse than being geared up to doing a lot of work on something and being hampered by techie problems.

It's partly insurance on the RSI. I know I can only physcially deal with a few items a day, so I try to keep a steady trickle going - but I'd just got really into the mental flow and starting to work through notes I'd made back at Conrunner.

On the few occasions when I had mail problems of my own, I resorted to the web version of my mail box. It was clunky and not nearly so convenient but I'd send responses and copy them to my other email address.

I'd second (third?) the recommendation to grab a googlemail account as a stop-gap and, if you have a secondary email address, to copy your responses to that too.

Belt, braces and string.
