Caption contest

Thanks to my wonderfully talented and helpful friends, I now have not one, but two icons from Waiting for Godot.  I've decided to keep one as an icon with the original text and add new text to the other.

Given that I like to use my icons in ways that link with what I'm talking about in my journal. eg.

I've lost my voice and am reduced to making Clanger-whistles over the phone.

Maths. Especially when I'm talking about my pupils, so normally in friend-locked postings to respect their privacy.

Fannish issues, especially con-running.

Someone deserves to be shot.

  self-explanatory.

  Self-explanatory.

Tell me what you feel this new icon represents to you, and what text could be added to it in order to bring that interpretation to mind.   As the friend who made this particular icon for me is not a slash fan, please respect her kindness in making it for me and suggest non-slashy interpretations.  Besides, I already have this icon:

Any caption that makes me laugh gets bonus points even if it isn't the one I finally use.

I still have a Tshirt, sadly too battered to wear any more, which I bought at the Royal Exchange's production of Godot (Trevor Peacock and Max Wall) in the late 1970s with the inscription "Back in 10 minutes... Godot".

But I can't say that's conjured up by this picture. I think it's something about friendship and mutual dependency, and if I had time I'd go and read the text to see if there's a phrase that does it, but I won't for another two weeks.

Thank you.

I can't really think of a caption either, but I'd be happy to add to the icon whatever text you decide on.

I'm currently toying with "Age is beauty", or "men mature like wine", "Old friends", "Friendship".

Let me know when you decide.

I'm also tempted by 'growing old disgracefully'.

What do you think?

I've decided.

I'll go for two!

"Really?"

"Grow old disgracefully."

Hugs and thanks.

Let me clarify: you want two versions, one with the caption "Really?", and the other one with the caption "Grow old disgracefully"?

Yes please. Pretty please with a cherry on top...

Johanna suggested 'Really?" and I liked that, and I'd already decided that I liked the idea of growing old disgracefully - and I couldn't choose between them...

The left one seems to be thinking "Are we done waiting yet?", while Patrick Stewart looks ready to wait a whole year if that's what it takes, so I'd have him saying "Done? We've only just started!"

The problem here would be fitting all that text into the size of an icon.

something about it looks very L&H to me so I'd go for 'that's another fine mess' for use in pickley situations

[identity profile] watervole.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
That occurred to me too, but I thought it would be better to use a pic of L+H themselves for that.

My immediate thought on seeing that image yesterday was "X-Men - the Previous Generation", but I'm not sure what that would represent.

How about "Judith's busy, be patient" :-)

[identity profile] jthijsen.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
Or maybe just "Please hold..."

[identity profile] meltinthemist.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Since I'm also using this icon and also try to match my icons with what I'm writing about I've given this a bit of thought prior to seeing this post. :)

Busy, bored, tired, friendship, aging, good movies/shows/stories/etc., old fashioned (considering I sometimes like to write about things like honour, etc.) and saying/questioning "reeeally?!" in a sarcastic, disbelieving kind of way.

I see what you mean about "really?" The expressions do lead themselves to that.

:) I definitely agree with 'growing old disgracefully'.
