Dr Who casting

I must admit that I'm glad it's not Paterson. Although I thought he was fabulous as the Marquis de Carabas in Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, I've found him really irritating as Greg in Survivors.

I'll trust the new guy.  I've liked all of the recent doctors, so I expect this one will work out well too.

I was bitterly disappointed that it wasn't Joseph. I think he's an excellent actor with a really good range. I don't think it's his fault that the Greg character has been so poorly used; I think he did the best he could with limited resources. As for the new guy - I'm open minded on him. I wasn't one of the wtf is that? brigade and I liked him well enough in Ruby. I think he's a fairly safe choice.

Yes, my big disappointment with Survivors has been that they've given him practically nothing to do. I thought Greg was supposed to be the male lead, but in this production that's clearly Tom. So every episode I ended up wondering "Why did you bother hiring Paterson Joseph?" and I've a nasty suspicion the answer was "Token black".

Which is not to say that Smith couldn't be a very good actor; I just don't like young Doctors (and that's not down to my age, I reacted the same way to Davison).

I was one of the "Who is Matt Smith" people as I've not watched anything he's been in.

He looks like he could be interesting, he's just got a couple of tough acts to follow...!

From what I can see of his history, he looks like he could be interesting so I'm quite excited. And I'm also reminding myself that it's the writing that makes the character as well as the actor and I'm in the 'Steven Moffat is a genius' camp as far as that goes :-)
