Bastad spammers

Someone has been using my email address to mail out spam recently - I've been getting loads of bounced spam coming back to me from duff addresses.

Of course, the inevitable follow-on.  My own genuine email is now bouncing back in some cases because my address is now a known spam source.

Grrrr.

Are you sure? No reputable spam filter would do that based on your address alone. They would do it based upon your mail server's address.

I own over 200 domains. I have it happen to me regularly.

You have what happen? You have your whole domain blacklisted because some spammer pretended to be from your domain? What software did this erroneous blocking?

I know perfectly well that spammers fake email addresses.

I'm enquiring about how that domain thus got blacklisted and through what blacklisting service.

Because not all blacklisting services/software are created equal. Not all spammers are created equal. Some people just suck/dont suck more than others. lol

I own many two word domains and can no longer keep track of black listings or pursue getting them lifted. I just have to live through them. It's why I have only one protected domain I use for my own emails.

Don't feel badly. Happens to me sporadically. Eventually, it's sorted out.

Same thing happened to me. Without doing anything, it stopped in about 3 months. I was only getting about 10 bounce backs a day at the height though.

Ditto -- this happens to one or other of my addresses every few months or so. Annoying at the time, but no long-term effects.

Exactly.

Have you got SPF or something similar set up for proving that a mail doesn't come from you?

It happens to everyone - I occasionally see spams in the spamtrap claiming to come from myself.

Actually it's more likely that someone who has your address in their addressbook has a trojan on their machine, which is putting addresses from the addressbook into the "from" field.

This is why I don't use an addressbook
