LJ are going to be using ReCaptcha for sorting people from spammers.  This is a great idea and one that actually helps in the process of digitising old books.  I've long hoped that more people would adopt this particular system.

The problem with ReCaptcha is that as the spammers get better at deciphering the images, the images have to get harder and harder to recognise. I just find it a pain in the ....

Ooh, thank you for linking to that! I've noticed on Ticketmaster that they have the "by doing this you are helping digitise books" thing. I've always wondered how that worked but was too lazy to look it up. And now I know :-)
