Continental Knitting

A friend (in a locked post) just mentioned that she was trying 'continental' knitting.

I'd never heard of it before, so did a quick hunt and found this excellent little video  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuRLFl36tDY

If I ever take up knitting again, I shall definitely try and teach myself to do it that way.  It looks both faster and easier.

I took up knitting last year, and tried the continental method, and although I could do it for knit stitch, I couldn't get the hang of it for purl. But now I've done a little bit more, I might try it again.

The video shows purl very clearly. Worth a look.

I find it a very similar technique to crocheting. But remember to compare the way the stitches lie on the needle. Be careful not to knit with an unintentional twist and decreases lean the wrong way round.

Dear ladies, I had been taught this method ba my granny as well as my mum - they tried and did their best but somehow I am not the right person to sit and knit. And yes, it is effective, I have got lots of wonderful woolen sweaters. If imprisoned, I know I would be able to make one too...:-)

Having finally watched the video I see that I use a slightly different technique from the one shown.

And her "English" knitting is very sloppy.

I've always only done Continental knitting and it's great. Also, probably the best place to pick up any technique in either English or Contental style is knittinghelp.com - they're awesome.
