Thunderbird question

I just had a micro power cut and although most things seem to be okay, the address book for Thunderbird has vanished.  Is there a way of getting it to look at the addresses in the 'sent' file or anything useful like that?

I have no idea where I'd start if I need to get all my addresses from scratch!

Additionally, looks like there ought to be a file 'abook.mab.bak' if you are lucky, or 'history.mab' if less lucky, which should contain a (possibly very old) backup.

Appropriate improvisation is left as an exercise for the reader. Needless to say, copy the entire directory somewhere safe beforehand.

I did find an abook.mab.bak but it was corrupt... However I am a hacker at heart, and after a couple of hours managed to unmangle the file.... :-)
