Root canal work...

Had a throat infection recently (I'm still a little hoarse, though okay otherwise) and I think it activated an old infection in the root of a tooth that died about 25 years ago.  The tooth had been sore for a week and there was a noticeable lump on the gum above it, so I went to the dentist.

I was right - sigh.

I've got a temporary root canal filling and when the inflamation has died down and the infection is definitely gone (to be sure the dentist cleaned it all out properly), then I've got to go back for part two of the job.  Teeth get expensive.

I notice that the resulting ache is also affecting my reading habits.  I'd started 'The Handmaid's Tale' and a Harry Turtledove novel and now I'm diving into the bookshelves to find something that requires less concentration.

I hope the infection and pain goes away soon. I'll have to read some Harry Turtledove - I've not done so before.

Ouch! Not good, but I do like your very appropriate icon.

Ouch, sympathies on the infection and the expense. Hope everything goes quickly and smoothly for you.

Owww. Much sympathy - that sounds nasty. I hope that the pain eases soon, and that part two goes well.

If you'll pardon a little eastern medicine, there's an accupressure point just inside your nostril (on the inside) that helps a lot with tooth pain. I lost all my teeth by the age of 40 (had them all pulled) and lived with tooth pain for years. This is a nice thing to use till the Vicodin kicks in.

But yes, one tends to look a little, well, improper while holding that pressure point. :)

Ouch, that's nasty. I am familiar with the "needing something with less concentration" while ill though. My book selection when I went into hospital for surgery a few years ago wasn't the best - Dune and the Thomas Covenant series. The day after major surgery, neither of these were particularly readable!
