Google has failed me. Can anyone tell me where to find a picture of a wartime aircraft recognition chart. You know, the posters with silhouettes of aircraft so that spotters could identify them as they flew overhead.
I can't see a whole chart but there are some pictures of individual cards. (I suspect in reality spotters may have been more likely to use small booklets than charts - you wouldn't really want to spread out a big wallchart in the middle of a field!).
It's really the poster I'm after as I'd like to use it as a basis for a t-shirt design.
It's really bugging me - I know they exist as I remember seeing one somewhere. They were used along the coast where there were fixed observation posts. I don't even know where I know this from...
There's one in the background of this photo, http://www.commercemarketplace.com/home/CollectAir/museum4.jpg taken from this page http://www.commercemarketplace.com/home/CollectAir/Museum.html (very image heavy!). Another similar possibility may be to base it on spaceship silhouettes, but on playing cards, see this search for some examples, http://snipurl.com/1bzjq This would require fewer ships, say 3 or 4 for the design, and could look quite striking.
