Cut for those who really do not want to read about heavy periods

Over last 12 months, at least three women on my friends list have talked about problems with really heavy periods. We get older, periods get heavier. It's a problem, but it's not a problem that we have to live with.

There are solutions, and these days there are some very good solutions.

The solution that worked in my case was a Mirena coil. It took a long time to be fully effective, but I would now swear by it to anyone.

If you have problems, go see your doctor. Don't get fobbed off, read the literature, and maybe a Mirena coil will be the answer for you as well.

Hey Judith would you mind if I also recommend a dietary option?
I've been following a new diet regime for a couple of months. I used to suffer horribly with my periods but since the new diet I'm really not.
It works on the principle of cutting out processed carbs and snacks and therefore elimating the bloodsugar rollercoaster. Apparently insulin has a relationship with seratonin (so it makes you feel better), and also most of the major hormones in your body which is why a spike in one can cause spikes in others. Level out your blood sugar and it all calms down.

I'm not saying its a miracle cure and its certainly not the easiest thing to do, but it has worked for me. They are definately lighter and less painful.

Your posting about it was one of the reasons I went for the Mirena myself, for the same reason - and I couldn't be happier with it. Light trouble-free periods and contraception with a failure rate roughly similar to a tubal ligation - LOVE it!

I'm going for one as soon as the next one starts (as they have to be put in while you're 'on') and fingers crossed it works out as well for me as for you.

I must also, as [livejournal.com profile] fifitrix suggests, try harder to low carb, as I'm finding my antidepressants are struggling to keep me level. I never found low carb had an effect on my periods, though.
