Brownie Point for Barclays

I phoned Barclays as I was intending to move the Redemption account to them to make it easier for me to pay in cheques at my local post office.

I mentioned to the lady on the phone my reason for moving from Nat West and she said she wasn't certain that I could pay in cheques for a club account at the Post Office. She went away and checked and said that I couldn't (basically, it's becasue they do these accounts for free as they're for charities, but the Post Office want paying for accepting cheques).

So, they probably won't get the account, but they get a Brownie Point for telling me about the problem in advance

I don't know if you remember Iain 'Mosh' Purdie, who was ZZ9's merchandise officer until around March, at which point he jetted off for foreign climes (he's still not back yet so it can't be all that bad) but he has written about Barclays on his blog (specifically, here, here, here, here, and here). The tone of such writing is always negative and generally includes cursing and general expressions of disgust and/or disbelief at the very bad level of customer service which he has, so far, received.

The Co-operative Bank has a Community account which you can pay in cheques at a designated Post Office.

Does it have free banking? Can you pay in cheques at Co-op?

Yes free banking for non-profit organisations. I am in the process of seting up our Residents Assocation Account and a Parish Council Account with them after very good recommendations from other non-profit groups. The reason we chose them is their ethical approach and community values.

The Community account has telephone, postal and online banking. You can also designate a Post Office for deposits and withdraws.

I do not know if you can pay in cheques at Co-op shops if that's what you are asking. I sugest you give the Co-operative Bank a ring on 0800 783 4741.

I just phoned and I'm very impressed with their telephone service.

They're sending me a form by email.

Thanks for the suggestion.
