It's long been noticed by the mathematicians in our household that 6x9=42 in base 13, thus proving that the universe is a fundamentally unlucky to be. Does anyone know if DNA did this deliberately, or is it just a fortuitous coincidence?
watervole can't type any more (RSI) but can pick up the phone. So taking dictation here...
Actually, I'm surprised you didn't know it, but the origin of having 13 people at table being unlucky is because at banquet in Valhalla Loki once intruded making 13 guests and Baldur was slain. The association with the Last Supper may be derivative or independent. Christians actually regard Friday as unlucky because it's the day Christ was crucified.
I think there may be a hell of a load of reasons why things got considered evil by all religions. And yeah, I do know the Viking myth:).
Vikings were patriarchal, so the number 13 (usually associated with the "feminine" through the moon and the lunar cycles and possibly even with the pre-Aryan goddess in the otherwise Aryan pantheon of the Vikings, Freya) may have been considered evil through this. In this case, no idea whether it's through patriarchy's influence or whatever.
I am not saying the feminist theory in my own post isn't infallible. I wish I had my reference books here now, damn... but for my own personal reasons, whether or not the theories are right, I tend to view the number thirteen and Friday as positive days. Because I love the lunar calendar of 13 full moons, and the fact that Friday was dedicated to the goddess of love in most European countries:).
