tooth or no tooth...

The dentist decided not to remove the tooth. He's concerned that the wisdom tooth is not the cause of the pain (no sign of crack or infection on the X-ray) and the pain hasn't got any worse since he last saw me.

He's referring me to the hospital to see if they can discover what it is.

There's lots of possible causes and he's reluctant to speculate as to what it might be. (He did mention stress as a possible factor and it is certain that the pain began at a time of very high stress for me)

It may be a pain, but at least he's being very ethical - and didn't charage me for the visit (and a tooth extraction would have cost quite a lot...)

I'm sorry the solution has moved yet further into the future.

Well, that sounds quite sensible, really. Annoying, though.

Reminds me ...

... of the dentist I saw in the US when I was younger (I may have mentioned this before, if so, sorry for being repetitive!)

All my friends at school had braces, and I've got a small gap between my front top teeth, so I asked if I could have braces as well to line the teeth up perfectly, and he refused, saying they were perfectly fine as they were. Can you believe it, a dentist turning down easy money? But he did, and I've had greater respect for dentists ever since!

I know that some people get phantom toothache because of stress causing muscles in the jaw and around there to tighten up too much (others get grinding teeth or similar) ... is there any time pattern to the pain? Does it get better or worse when you go to bed? How about after a nice relaxing bath with no stress?

(((HUGS))) I was thinking about you and your tooth pain all day today. I hope that you can get it sorted.

No noticeable patterns, though I haven't had an acute attack recently (and at least one major stress factor has reduced significantly in the last couple of weeks)

Just to say ...

I see the dentist has been reading my posts!
