Tooth update

Managed to get an appointment this morning as the tooth has been very bad recently - seems to have decided that it's the top right wisdom tooth and it doens't like me biting on things like hard carrot.

However, having very carefully not bitten on anything hard in the last two days, the pain had subsided to the extent where it didn't yelp at all when the dentist hit the tooth with his little hammer. As he said, I should have leapt out of the seat screaming...

We've scheduled a date to remove the tooth (I'm not going to mess around with any more fillings in that one, even assuming that we could locate the offending point). However, it takes a longer appointment than usual to remove a wisdom tooth and there's none free until October 10th. The receptionist promises to phone me the minute she gets a cancellation.

The dentist has also taken an X-ray as he's still worried that we may not have found the correct cause of the problem, so the extraction also depends on the result of the X-ray.

In the meantime, I feel grotty, but it isn't horrendously painful as long as I try and avoid biting on that side. I find my balance is a bit off and I feel queasy a lot of the time. Pain killer consumption varies from day to day. Some days I can get away with almost none, some days it's everything in the cupboard and trips to the chemist to get more...

This is upper-jaw wisdom tooth, I take it? When I had my lower-jaw wisdom teeth out, it was a hospital job; as far as I could make out, they had to smash the jaw to get them out, and botched the repairs.

But I've had friends who had the upper-jaw teeth out, and that was just a long session at the dentist, after which they were allowed to walk home.

Upper jaw.

I had a lower one out a few years ago. That was a dentist rather than a hospital job in my case.

I had to have both the upper ones removed within the space of a year due to decay, and it was a long but fairly simple job as they'd come through completely and there was no impaction involved. The worst part of the whole thing was the amount of anaesthetic involved.

Yuk, sounds horrible. I have everything crossed for you that this is the cause of your trouble and will be away soon. My teeth are hurting in sympathy!
