Boating on the Stour

Went rowing on the river Stour near Wimborne with exalted_mugwump, micavity and entorien.

Very nice afternoon. We hired a boat from Dreamboats and Kelvin and Henry rowed us down the river. Fantastic time of year for dragonflies. Carrie had brought a book with her and we were able to identify several species. Black tailed chaser, banded demoiselles (whole clouds of them), emperor and another one that I've forgotten. Plenty of herons and small water lilies. It really is a lovely stretch of river. We followed up the boat with a walk along the river bank and strolled for an hour or two before catching a bus home.

The other one was a Beautiful Demoiselle, a really deep metallic green one. I have to admit though, the banded one that landed on my hat made my day!
